Wicked Lovely

The first book in the Wicked Lovely series, Wicked Lovely is a story by Melissa Marr.

In the land of Faeries, there is a Summer King, a Winter Queen, and a Winter Girl. The Summer King, Keenan, is under a curse- he has to find a Summer Queen who will not be swallowed by ice upon touching the Winter Queen's staff. Then Winter will not rule the land, and the girl will bring prosperity into the Summer Court. Yet Keenan's true love is consumed by the ice, leaving him with another hunt, a love who turned her back to him, and a new girl who only has eyes for her boyfriend. But the new girl might be the Summer Queen. So he keeps on trying. What happens when you're destined to be with a girl you don't love, and separated with the girl you do? Now the Winter Girl, Donia has Keenan's heart. Unfortunately for her, he has hers. And then there's the Winter Queen. Beira. Also known as Keenan's mother. Lovely. Along with all this, will Keenan be able to find happiness?

The main characters in this story would be Keenan, Donia, Beira, Aislinn, and Seth. Keenan loves Doina and would give up anything and everything for her. But his curse keeps him tied with Aislinn, only to find that Aislinn only has eyes for Seth- her mortal boyfriend. Meanwhile, Beira does everything within her power to stop Aislinn and Keenan from getting together. And here, Keenan is faced with an impossible choice. To loose the Summer Queen and keep Donia alive or to gain the Summer Queen and have Donia dead. What would you do???

Rule #3: Don't stare at invisible faeries.

Aislinn was 'gifted' with sight. She sees faeries as they really are: powerful and dangerous, roaming the mortal world. Aislinn hates this gift of hers and has trained herself to be blind the faeries around her, acting like she doesn't see them even when she does.

Rule #2: Don't speak to invisible faeries.

But what if they speak to you? What if the Summer King speaks to you, asks you to be his queen? What if he asks Aislinn questions she can't answer?

Rule #1: Don't ever attract their attention

Too late. Keenan has been looking for his queen for eternity. With Keenan's prescence there is Donia's attention, caused by Beira's attentiveness to her. And it's hard to ignore Keenan's gentle pleas to his volatile nature.

The three rule which have kept Aislinn hidden and happy are now torn down, and burned. All of a sudden, her life is in peril, as well as the life of everyone she loves. Ditching her rules to take up another set of rules is her job now. Take up the rules of the Faeries.

Melissa Marr weaved an intricate novel of romance, Winter, Summer, and longing. It's an amazing book and I loved reading it! Her characters are so very well developed too. However, it's a young adult fantasy read, so I would not recommend it to children.
